Painting Joey...
This is about a two and a half hour painting session with the wonderful Joey Lugassy. How great is it to take some time to breathe deep and create?! Sometimes letting go takes a conscious effort to figure out exactly what you're holding on to. I painted Joey while he played some of his music for me. It was a perfect Friday afternoon. While painting, I noticed how technique and process and "the right way to do things" kept cropping up in my mind. I could hear all the voices in my head telling me how to do this stroke or mix that color, clamoring in my brain until finally I just asked them to hush. In the empty space, I noticed how "letting go" is a moment to moment unfolding. It is a continual listening for the divine, a quiet release into the music of the spheres and the greater intelligences that are a-swirl whenever the heart is open and the gaze is lifted. From that place, doing anything is a joy. That's what I felt sitting with Joey. But that's no surprise, sitting with Joey is always an inspiration.
